Featured Project: Water Allocation Simulation (WAS)
Whilst multiple stakeholder platforms have the potential to be highly troubled environments, dialogue and collective planning are important and constructive points of departure in deriving strategic plans for managing water resources. This short term project tested collective exploration of the uses, practices and management options in water allocation planning in a controlled and simplified environment for the Sand River catchment. Such approach is has also been referred to as participatory simulation when using a computer based model, role playing games or companion modelling. The approach was linked to the Water Allocation Plans that are obligatory parts of Catchment Management Strategies in South Africa
